What got me enjoying Big Star originally was that they were one of a handful of honky artists on Stax Records, the greatest r&b/soul label ever. Anybody else here like soul music?

I've been listening to that every day this month. And, I've been streaming in on my online station once every 3 hours. Simply one of the greatest songs ever!

...to the Big Star tribe... #1 Record. I will be your moderator and hostess, ably assisted by Mari Pena, who probably knows more about Big Star than I do.

Shall we start the discussion with what is your all time fave Big Star song? Or maybe Top Five? It's too hard to pick just one, I think.

what were they thinking?

I found many years ago in a thrift shop a 7" 45 of O MY SOUL. Long version on one side, short version on the other. Couldn't the record company tell that SEPTEMBER GURLS was obviously the potential hit? Were they being lazy and just did side one cut one for the single to get it over with?

not the O MY SOUL isn't an awesome song, but ya know what I mean...

LOL man, i recently joined a tribe for the scissor sisters and every thread is overloaded with nothing but comments like "sit on my face, jake shears!" or "i want to suck his cock!"

what about the music? i mean, tangents and amusing anecdotes and comments are good, but shouldn't be the bread and butter of a music tribe

enough already... can anyone in this tribe please renew my faith in music tribes by, ya know, talking about music?

anything will do really... what's the best show you've seen recently? the worst show you've seen recently?

me, i just saw a nice little show with local bands and musicians covering Exile on Main Street straight through from start to finish... that was fun!

Last year, they did the same thing with The White Album

Did any of you see the Big Star reuniuon shows from a couple of years ago.. you know, the lineup with the Posies guys? I didn't and I'm curious. I was kind of surprised to see they did it, as when I lived in New Orleans in the early to mid 90's, Alex Chilton was cooking grilled cheese sandwiches at the McCrory's (Newberrys) by Canal. Guess he got his head together enough to do it, eh?
